Reflection 2

Everyone in the world have goals in their life such as earning a lot money, get a good job, get good result, safe people's life and more. A person is said to be living a meaningful life if they have a goal to work towards it. If not, they don't know what is the reason they are still living. So, we can conclude that A person without goal is equal to a person without life. They are many type of goals such as short term goal and long term goal. Short term goal is those that we aim to achieve in short period such as getting good results in exam or even finish reading a book. Long term goal is goals that we wish to achieve in a long period such as our goal in life like becoming a rich person or getting famous as a professional person in particular field.

My goal

After attending few weeks of mpu lessons, I had set up my goal as to get 4A* s so that I can achieve my dream to become a clinical psychologist. A goal is something that we look forward to achieve and what we aim for. As I started my A levels program, I started to think what is my path in the future. As I decided to do psychology as major subject in university and take clinical psychology as my master program, I know that I need to get a good result to enter good universities such as Monash or even Harvard so that I can know the best of this subject. How ever, good universities need good results. I believe that 4A*s will give me more chance.

Interpret my goal

Getting 4A*s in A level examination means that I need to get full A* for every subject I took since I only take 4 subjects which is biology. chemistry, physics and mathematics. A* means that I score 90 marks and above in average in my AS and A2 examinations. Each subject have 5 papers in total and thus, I need to score more than 90 marks as average in 20 papers. I need to handle 4 subjects and practice for more than 10 papers in 1.5 year. This will be a tough challenge.

Evaluate the goal.

Although it is hard to achieve, I still think that it is not impossible for me it get it in 1.5 years time. My confidence came from seeing so many people from all over the world got 4A* every year. Since they manage to get why I can't? By seeing so many examples, I know that it is achievable. The only thing that I need to do is to work harder. Getting 90 marks and above is possible as the subjects I took is science subjects and maths which have a rights answer for every questions. Thus, as long as I know the answer, I can score for that question. I can even count for the marks I score or I lose easily when I do my own exercise. Thus, this is definitely achievable.

Plan my goal

In order to achieve my goal, I need to have a positive mindset and believe that I can do this. Being confidence is my first step in achieving my goal, Next, I need to work hard and do consistent study so that I can catch up with what I learned everyday and remember what I had learnt in previous lessons. I need to set up a time table and follow the time table I set so that I can manage my time well to revise all 4 subject and not leaving 1 subject behind. Other than that, I need to do more exercises so that I will be familiar with the answering skill and types of questions that they commonly asked. I will also know which part of the subject that I do not understand well and know where to study more by doing more exercise. This will help me in understanding the subject too. After that, I can search through internet or ask for help if I do not understand certain things in my studies.

In conclusion, My goal is to get 4A*s. It is achievable since a lot of people got it every year. In order to get it, I need to study more, do more exercise and seek for help if I do not understand something.

My Reflection

Reflection

After few weeks of classes, I understand my self better. I started to look at my self and think who am I and what can I do. The first activity that I did in this class is to know about Taylor's graduate capabilities. There are 8 of them which are: discipline specific knowledge, lifelong learning, thinking and problem solving skill, communicating skill, intrapersonal skill, interpersonal skill, citizenship and global perspective and digital literacy. Among these capabilities, I found out that I need improvements in my communicating skills. I found out that I am lack of confidence when communicate with others. Thus, I planned to figure out ways to overcome it. I can talk more to other people, not just those that I am close in but also those who I don't even know their name. This is very important for me as my dream is to become a clinical psychologist who need to meet a lot of people from different backgrounds and help them overcome their problems. I can't let them getting worse and worse just because of my weak communicating skills hurt their feelings. Thus, since now I know that from 8 major capabilities, I am worse in communicating, I shall put more effort in improve it.

The second thing that I learnt is about setting a smart goal. This, again, helped me too. Before knowing this method of setting goal, I found it hard in achieving goals even though I know the goals are important. I often end up did nothing for the whole day or even whole year. None of my goals which i set in the beginning of the year achieved. By knowing this SMART method of setting goals, it seems like my goal is more attainable. The SMART stands for specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound. From this, I can set my goal as ' I want to get 4A's in my A-level examination in 1.5 years so that I can get into my dream university'. This looks much better than just saying ' I want to get good results'. Now I have a specific direction and a target to work towards it. I should set more goals by using this method so that I will not procrastinate and can do work effectively without wasting time.

Next, I did my personality test. From the result I obtain, I know that I am an introvert which always keep calm and quiet. I maintain distance with others and take privacy as important thing in life. The result didn't show clear result but still give the possible personality types of me. The personality that I feel happy that I have is the counselor. It fits my dream of becoming a clinical psychologist. Now I know that I have the potential to achieve my dream. Thus, I should be determine on my decision.

In order to achieve my dream which I confirmed when I did my personality test, I need to work hard for it. The 1st thing I need to do is to get a good result. This is why the next section become important for me. I need to make sure that I use a correct study method to get as much knowledge as I can. Therefore, I need to know my learning style. As the result of the test I took online, I found out that I am a visual learner. I can learning better by imagine pictures and look at pictures. The weakness of being a visual learner is that I get distracted easily which I know it is quite true. I can,t focus in studies if there are people beside me or often pass by my side. Thus, I should find a quiet study area to avoid me from getting distracted.

Other than that, I learned about SWOT which means strength, weakness, opportunities and threats. I was asked to figure this 4 things that I have in my life. I took this opportunity to sit down and think deeply that strength do I have, what is my weakness, what are the opportunities that I have and what are the threats that I am going to face. After writing down a long list of it, I realise that I am not as bad as I thought I was. although I have a lot of weakness which will affect my path of achieving dreams, but I still have strength that help me to overcome all that. Even though my strength might not be enough to totally overcome my weakness now, I can figure out ways to increase my strength. Now I know that I have  lot of opportunities and might face a lot of threats in future. Thus, I need to be prepare so that I will not lose any opportunities or be defeated my those threats.

Lastly, I did my career test. Actually I had decided that no matter what is the result, I will still continue in my dream because I realise that a person doesn't fit a job well do not mean that he cannot do the job well. Anyway, I took the test seriously because I am curious about my result. Fortunately, psychologist is one of the job shown in the list they gave me as the result of test. The result shows that I care of other people's feelings and suit the job. This motivate me even more to become a psychologist.

As conclusion, this session really helps me a lot more than I thought it will be. From a person that do not know what to do, I know myself better now. I know my ability and strength and my weakness. I set my goal and confirm my dream. I had set a pathway of my life and I am going to follow it. This pathway might not be persistent because I might have a different thought when I grow up and face even more obstacles. However, no matter what will the result be, as long as I am aware of what am I doing now and if I follow the steps, I will sure reach the goal of my life.

What's Your Learning Style? The Results

Your Scores:
  • Auditory: 30%
  • Visual: 60%
  • Tactile: 10%
You are a Visual learner! Check out the information below, or view all of the learning styles.

Visual

If you are a visual learner, you learn by reading or seeing pictures. You understand and remember things by sight. You can picture what you are learning in your head, and you learn best by using methods that are primarily visual. You like to see what you are learning.
As a visual learner, you are usually neat and clean. You often close your eyes to visualize or remember something, and you will find something to watch if you become bored. You may have difficulty with spoken directions and may be easily distracted by sounds. You are attracted to colour and to spoken language (like stories) that is rich in imagery.
Here are some things that visual learners like you can do to learn better:
  • Sit near the front of the classroom. (It won't mean you're the teacher's pet!)
  • Have your eyesight checked on a regular basis.
  • Use flashcards to learn new words.
  • Try to visualize things that you hear or things that are read to you.
  • Write down key words, ideas, or instructions.
  • Draw pictures to help explain new concepts and then explain the pictures.
  • Colour code things.
  • Avoid distractions during study times.
Remember that you need to see things, not just hear things, to learn well.
